Last updated: 19 March 2025
TRMNL Holdings LLC (d/b/a “TRMNL”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting any personal information that you may provide while using the TRMNL New Tab Display Chrome Extension (“the Extension”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information specifically in relation to the Extension. It is designed to supplement the main TRMNL Privacy Policy, which can be found at https://usetrmnl.com. In case of any inconsistencies between this document and the main policy, this Extension-specific Privacy Policy will govern the handling of personal information in the context of the Extension.
By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy and our main Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 TRMNL API Key
User-Provided API Key: When you install and configure the Extension, you may choose to provide your
TRMNL API key. This key allows the Extension to fetch images from the TRMNL API and personalise your new tab experience.
Device Selection: If your TRMNL account is linked to multiple devices, you may select the device from
which the Extension fetches images. This selection information is stored locally.
1.2 Automatically Collected Data
Local Storage: The Extension may use Chrome’s local storage to securely store your TRMNL API key,
selected device information, environment settings (development or production), and any cached images or metadata.
Usage Data: The Extension may record minimal, non-personally identifiable information such as the time
of your last image refresh or any error messages encountered. This data helps us diagnose issues and improve the Extension.
1.3 No Collection of Browsing History
The Extension does not track or collect your browsing history or behaviour outside of what is necessary for its functionality. It does not monitor your activities on other sites or in other browser tabs.
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Image Display and Functionality
We use your TRMNL API key to authenticate requests to the TRMNL API, retrieve images, and display them on your new tab page. Cached images are stored locally to enhance performance and reduce redundant requests.
2.2 Configuration and User Preference
Device Management: If you have multiple devices, the Extension uses information about your chosen
device to display images relevant to that specific device.
Environment Selection: Developers or advanced users can switch between development and production
environments within the Extension’s DevTools panel.
2.3 Error Handling and Improvements
Troubleshooting: We may collect error logs or related diagnostic information to troubleshoot issues
and improve Extension stability.
Updates: Periodically, we may prompt updates or notify you about enhancements or important changes
to the Extension.
3. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
No Third-Party Sharing: We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your TRMNL API key, device
information, or other personal data to third parties for marketing or other unauthorised purposes.
Service Providers: We may share anonymised or aggregated data with trusted service providers who help
us operate or maintain the Extension, provided they agree to keep this information confidential.
4. Data Retention and Security
Local Storage: Your API key and other settings are stored securely in Chrome’s local storage. We take
reasonable measures to ensure this information remains protected from unauthorised access.
Data Retention: We store data in the Extension only for as long as it is necessary to provide the
services outlined in this Privacy Policy. You can remove or revoke the Extension at any time to delete local data.
5. Your Choices and Rights
5.1 Managing or Removing Your Data
API Key Removal: You can remove or update your TRMNL API key by editing the Extension’s settings or
by uninstalling the Extension.
Device Selection: You can change which device’s API key is used at any time in the Extension’s settings.
Uninstalling the Extension: If you no longer wish to use the Extension, you can uninstall it via your
browser’s extensions manager. Doing so will remove all locally stored data.
5.2 GDPR, CCPA, and Other Data Protection Rights
If you reside in a jurisdiction with data protection laws (such as the EU’s GDPR or California’s CCPA), you may have the right to access, rectify, or delete personal data collected by TRMNL. Please refer to our main Privacy Policy for detailed information on exercising these rights.
6. Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data via the Extension, please contact us immediately, and we will work to remove such information promptly.
7. Third-Party Links or Services
While the Extension primarily interacts with the TRMNL API, it may occasionally include links to our website or related services. Our Privacy Policy does not apply to external sites or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you choose to visit.
8. Updates to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Extension-specific Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of significant changes by publishing a notice within the Extension or via our website. Your continued use of the Extension after such updates constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
